10th July 2011: Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t been around for the past few days. The truth is that I have been around, but not around in my normal places. I took a few days off and went down to Orlando to bid farewell to an old friend.
I think that in most boy’s lives, there is a time that they want to be an astronaut or a cosmonaut or a lumberjack (we’ll deal with that one some other time) – I can’t say that I had a huge interest in being one, an astronaut /cosmonaut I mean – a lumberjack is a different story, but we’ll deal with that some other time – but I have always had a fascination with space (and chopping down trees, but we’ll deal with that some other time). Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour all kept that fascination alive with the marvelous accomplishments they achieved.
I must be honest – as awesome as the launch of STS-135 was, there was a little lump in my throat when I saw her disappear into the clouds for the last time.
